Common to all styles of Qi Gong whether moving or still is the technique of deep diaphragmatic breathing. Breath control is the key to energy control and it is through the breath that the mind can take control of the body and regulate its vital functions.

There are many different ways to exercise the breath, each one having a particular benefit. The following list includes some of the different types of breathing methods which are taught.

·    Bellows breath
·    Natural abdominal breathing
·    Reverse abdominal breathing
·    Alternate nostril breathing
·    Compression breathing
·    Energy gate breathing

Through these different breathing techniques which all mobilise the diaphragm to drive the breath, we massage and stimulate the internal organs and glands, boost the circulation of blood and energy, strengthen the immune system, regulate the nervous and endocrine systems, improve digestion, bowel movement and other important functions.
